Description
This folder contains correspondence from George Wesley Browning, an entomologist and artist who lived in Salt Lake City, Utah. Browning collected a diverse range of insects in the surrounding area of Salt Lake City and sent many of his specimens to the American Entomological Society (AES) for identification. Insects he collected include but are not limited to butterflies, beetles, dragonflies, and grasshoppers. Some were collected during his trips to the Wasatch Range. Browning also drew several drawings for the cover of the journal, Entomological News.
Browning received numerous visits from other entomologists, who were either passing through Utah or traveling to Utah on research expeditions. His letters frequently mention the difficulties of balancing his personal responsibilities, such as the birth of his sons, with his desire to collect insects. Browning, George Wesley (23) 1897-1903.
