Description
This folder holds correspondence primarily from Frederic Hova Wolley Dod. Dod's correspondence discusses his work with different families of butterflies such as Hesperiidae and Lycaenidae. He collected many of his specimens in Alberta, Canada; many of his letters are centered around his attempts to identify and name several of these specimens.
George Dimmock's 1879 a letter to the American Entomological Society (AES) concerns a shipment of 450 Hymenoptera specimens sent to the society. Dimmock collected these specimens across three different locations: White Mountain, New Hampshire; Springfield, Massachusetts; and Cumberland Gap, Kentucky. Alongside his letter is a letter of specimens collected in Cumberland Gap.
Rennie W. Doane's correspondence discusses several articles about Diptera he sent to the AES for publication. In 1919, Doane sent a request to the AES for materials concerning Therevidae to support a graduate student's research and monograph. The AES subsequently sent 38 undetermined specimens of Therevidae. Dimmock, George (1) 1879; Dixon, Samuel Gibson (2) 1895; Doane, Rennie W. (4) 1889-1920; Dobbie, Howard R. (1) 1935; Dod, Frederic Hova Wolley (16) 1895-1908.
