Description
This folder contains correspondence from J. Gaither Bonniwell, an architect who mostly collected insects of the order, Lepidoptera, particularly butterflies. One butterfly frequently mentioned throughout his correspondence is Megathymus cofaqui, commonly known as the Cofaqui giant-skipper. Bonniwell captured several live pupae of M. cofaqui, and he mailed several of them to the American Entomological Society (AES) for further research. He brought the rest with him throughout his travels to Venice, Florida; St. Augustine, Florida; and El Paso, Texas. His correspondence details the growth and deaths of several M. cofaqui pupae.
