Description
This folder contains correspondence from multiple individuals. Three of these individuals, C.S. Brimley, Wilton Everett Britton, and Jay Elmer Brown, heavily discuss research on various butterflies. C.S. Brimley’s correspondence discusses his capture of numerous Pamphila carolina, a synonym of Amblyscirtes carolina that is commonly known as the Carolina roadside skipper, throughout April of 1903 in North Carolina. He donated many of his captured specimens to several organizations and institutions such as the American Entomological Society (AES), the American Museum of Natural History, and the United States National Museum.
Wilton Everett Britton or W.E. Britton was a horticulturist and entomologist, who worked for the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station. His correspondence mentions numerous exchanges of butterfly specimens with the AES, particularly Hesperiidae. Other insects that were exchanged with the AES were Orthoptera, Coleoptera, and Hymenoptera.
Jay Elmer Brown’s correspondence contains a list of descriptions on different forms of Rhopalocera, a synonym of butterflies.
