Description
This folder primarily contains correspondence from William Beutenmüller, an entomologist who worked as curator in the Department of Entomology at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. Beutenmüller was also a member of the New York Entomological Society. His correspondence spans across three decades, with most being directed to Henry Skinner of the American Entomological Society (AES).
Beutenmüller’s correspondence discusses a variety of insects, including but not limited to beetles, butterflies, flies, gall wasps, and moths. His letters to Henry Skinner reveal multiple exchanges of specimens, literature, and publications conducted between the AES, the American Museum of Natural History, and the New York Entomological Society. Beutenmüller also built a large collection of insects he collected from the Black Mountains of North Carolina. Beutenmüller made multiple trips to the Black Mountains across his career and donated several duplicates of specimens to the AES. Beutenmüller, William (88) 1891-1921.
