This folder holds correspondence from multiple individuals, spanning from 1886-1939. Among the correspondents are several corresponding members of the American Entomological Society (AES), who received letters confirming their membership at the time. Joseph Charles Bequaert, a naturalist who worked in the Department of Tropical Medicine at Harvard University Medical School, received the notice of his election as a Corresponding Member of the AES in 1938. Antonio Berlese was an Italian entomologist who received his diploma as a Corresponding Member of the AES in 1924. In his correspondence is an invitation sent to the President of the AES in 1937 by Professor Guido Paoli, the secretary of a committee that sought to honor Berlese’s work and memory in San Vincenzo, Tuscany, where he studied how to defend olive plants from parasites.
Charles James Stewart Bethune or C.J.S. Bethune was a Canadian entomologist who taught in the Department of Entomology and Zoology at Ontario Agricultural College. Bethune also served as the editor of the journal, The Canadian Entomologist. His correspondence consists of letters detailing exchanges of publications and Canadian insect specimens with the AES, and requests to the AES to send a representative to attend the jubilee of the Entomological Society of Ontario that was held in 1913.
