Description
This folder contains correspondence from and directed to Ephraim Porter Felt. A large portion of his correspondence is focused on his work as the State Entomologist of New York. As State Entomologist, Felt researched the health effects of certain Diptera on the sanitary conditions of government buildings and camps such as hospitals and entomological field camps. A 1912 letter to Henry Skinner of the American Entomological Society (AES) discussed suggestions of a possible fumigant that could be used to kill pests in homes without endangering the human occupants. Felt's duties as State Entomologist also included managing the insect collection of his predecessor, J.A. Lintner, alongside Lintner's family.
Felt visited the AES in Philadelphia on several occasions, with one being to view specimens of Ophion, a genus of wasps, for a paper he was writing. In 1923, he was elected as a Corresponding Member of the AES. Felt, Ephraim Porter (40) 1896-1926.
