Description
This folder contains correspondence from and directed to Henry Torsey Fernald. Fernald was professor of entomology at the Massachusetts Agricultural College, later known as the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Fernald primarily worked with Hymenoptera, particularly with wasps. Insects mentioned throughout his correspondence include but are not limited to Aphidiinae, Sphex, Chlorion, and Braconidae. Scattered throughout his correspondence are exchange receipts for specimens sent to him by the American Entomological Society (AES). Fernald wrote numerous publications on Hymenoptera, with a 1933 letter to the AES revealing his completion of an 188-page paper on Sphex and a desire to see it published. In addition to his own research, Fernald assisted many graduate students with their own research endeavors by referring them to the AES and requesting research materials on their behalf. Fernald, H. T. (Henry Torsey) (62) 1904-1933.
