Description
Glass lantern slide of a sepia toned photograph of the Cresheim Creek Arch under construction. The stone arch bridge was constructed in 1892 to carry the city’s first intercepting sewer over Cresheim Creek near where it meets the Wissahickon. The image shows the partially constructed bridge with falsework in place. It is an active construction scene with seven men working around the site. A horse and cart are towing stone blocks while more are piled around. The handwritten label reads: "Arch Construction, Overbrook, Philadelphia, Pa." Used to illustrate the course "Civil Engineering Structures" which was taught between 1893-1950 at the Wagner Free Institute of Science, Philadelphia, Pa.
