Designed by Strickland Kneass and built between 1861-1866, the Chestnut Street bridge consisted of two gothic-style arched spans of cast iron, two granite abutments, and a central granite pier. The bridge was demolished in 1958. Used to illustrate the course "Civil Engineering Structures" which was taught between 1893-1950 at the Wagner Free Institute of Science, Philadelphia, Pa.
