This folder contains correspondence authored by Nathan Banks, an entomologist who worked on a variety of insect orders. Neuroptera, Diptera, and mites are frequently mentioned throughout the correspondence. Throughout 1910-1911, he collaborated with another entomologist on writing a paper about a new species of the genus Pipunculidae, commonly known as big-headed flies. Banks also examined several arachnids such as long-legs spiders and trapdoor spiders.
In 1912, Banks attended the Second International Congress of Entomology in Oxford, United Kingdom and was elected to the International Entomological Committee on Nomenclature as part of a series of resolutions surrounding entomological nomenclature. As a member of the committee, Banks was charged with beginning communications with various entomological societies and collecting their opinions and feedback on how nomenclature was conducted in entomology. The American Entomological Society (AES) was one of these societies that he contacted, and he requested that two members be selected to join the American National Committee on Entomological Nomenclature. A copy of the resolutions passed can be found in the correspondence.
Nathan Banks became a member of the AES in 1924. Banks, Nathan (40) 1891-1929.
