Description
Lecture no. 8 on Mineralogy discusses the systematic arrangement of minerals. Wagner categorizes minerals in 8 classes: Earthy Minerals, Alkaline Earthy Minerals, Acids, Acidiferous Earthy Minerals, Acidiferous Alkaline Minerals, Acidiferous Alkaline Earthy Minerals, Native Metals and Metalliferous Minerals, and Combustibles. The description of these classes starts with Earthy Minerals including the many variations of Quartz, Chalcedony, Opals, Sinter, and Garnets. Wagner first delivered this course of lectures in the Fall of 1853. He continued to alter and add to the text until he stopped lecturing in 1884.
