Description
Lecture no. 1 on Mineralogy begins with an overview of the forms of matter, simple elemental bodies, and chemical combinations. The properties of gaseous elements (Oxygen, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Chlorine and Fluorine) and some non-metallic liquids and solids (Sulphur and Phosphorus) and how they pertain to the forming of rocks and minerals is discussed in detail. Wagner first delivered this course of lectures in the Fall of 1853. He continued to alter and add to the text until he stopped lecturing in 1884.
