Description
Lecture no. 6 on Mineralogy begins with a description of the procedure of measuring the angles of crystals with Goniometers. Wagner continues with the broader subject of the identification of minerals and their properties by examining more external characteristics, including Fracture, Frangibility, Hardness, Transparency, Luster, Colours, Flexibility and Elasticity, Double Refraction, Touch, Taste, Odor, Streak, Adhesion to the tongue, Magnetism, Electricity, and Specific Gravity. Wagner first delivered this course of lectures in the Fall of 1853. He continued to alter and add to the text until he stopped lecturing in 1884.
