Article from unidentified newspaper has handwritten date : "8/22\41 "; Caption reads : "Proposed federal rationing of gasoline will have no effect upon D . Vincent Smith , veteran bicycle rider and photographer , of 409 Hastings Street , South Williamsport . He uses a two-wheeled vehicle in getting around the country in connection with his work . Mr . Smith is observing his 48th year in the business of taking pictures , an activity which has made him a familiar figure over the state . In that time he has traveled 147,000 miles on bicycles . The cyclist , who will be 67 years old on Jan . 24 , has resided practically all his life in South Williamsport . He has averaged as high as 3,500 miles a year in his riding . His longest day's ride with the photography equipment attached to the bicycle was 80 miles , he recalls . His equipment weighs about 100 pounds . His own weight of 165 gives him a heavy burden to pedal around . The wheel shown above with Mr . Smith is his ninth one . Eight others have been to the scrap heap after having made their contribution to this lengthy record. "
