Plate N o . 5 gives a chart by which the total tractive power of the locomotive may be ascertained with a boiler
pressure of 140 pounds. The figures at the top of the chart indicate the diameter of the driving wheels, those at the
left hand margin the total tractive power. The curves represent various sizes of cylinders. A horizontal line through
the intersection of the lines representing driving wheel diameter and size of cylinders will indicate the total tractive
power required.
