Nathan Stuart digs into the ground as other participants in the Ground Breaking Ceremony for the Lamade Gymnasium pose with him for a photo . Mr . Stuart graduated from Williamsport Dickinson Seminary and Junior College in 1936 , and served as the chairman for the Partners in Progress campaign that raised funds for the gymnasium . The gymnasium , part of the Physical Education and Recreation Center , is named in honor of George R . Lamade . Mr . Lamade was the publisher of the 'Grit ' newspaper and administrative committee chairman of the Williamsport Foundation . The Williamsport Foundation contributed $500,000 toward the cost of the facility . The organization recommended that the gymnasium be named after Mr . Lamade to recognize his years of service to the Williamsport area . Pictured in the photo are, l . to r. : Dan Kirby , mayor of Williamsport ; John B .
