Description |
Letter sent by George Getty to Judge Thomas White from the State House on January 6, 1864. Getty writes to Thomas White urging him to use his influence to find a way for the imprisoned Harry White to give up his seat in the deadlocked Pennsylvania Senate. He says that the act would be seen as magnanimous and would benefit Harry's reputation and, Getty implies, enhance Harry's future political prospects. He adds that such sacrifices are necessary because of the actions of Jeff Davis and "Copperheads" in the Pennsylvania Senate. |
