White, Thomas, 1799-1866. Allison, Thomas Henderson, 1820-1898--Correspondence. Indiana County (Pa.)--Politics and government--19th century. Pennsylvania--Politics and government--19th century. White, Harry L., 1834-1920--Biography. |
Description |
Letter sent by T. H. [Thomas Henderson] Allison to Judge Thomas White from Elderton in June 1862. [Allison was a prominent physician in Elderton, Pa.] Allison reports on his campaign for Harry White including getting "tickets" printed for distribution to voters in Armstrong County. The subject of the letter is what Allison perceives to be an effort to get Harry's opponent, a man named Meredith, elected through the appointment of conferees who have been selected by return judges. One of these conferees is Meredith's son. If White loses in Indiana County in the upcoming election, the plot may be implemented in Armstrong County, in which case, Allison and others will demand that conferees be elected, not appointed. Allison is confident, however, that Harry will win in Armstrong County in the election occurring on this day. |
