Description |
Letter sent by Richard White to his father Thomas White from Fort Edisto, South Carolina on June 17, 1862. Richard writes that he is enclosing a money draft for his wife Kate and would like his father to acknowledge that he has received it by sending a receipt. He previously sent money to his wife and doesn't know if she ever received it. Postal arrangements are imperfect, he says. He is stationed on James Island while preparations are being made for an attack on Charleston, S.C. He is in command of the garrison and is determined to defend the Island "in the last extremity." There has been sickness among the men, but his regiment is in good health and he finds the climate very agreeable. Richard has questions about how he is to obtain back pay. |
