Description
Letter from James Graham to his father , dated January 23 , 1864 , in which he discusses how he has received a package of various items from his father , such as new boots , apples , and butter . He mentions that they have arrived safely , and that his regiment has received many other shipments--one containing twenty-eight pies and about a bushel of cakes . He reports that they are not in need of extra soap , coffee , or meat ; however , bread is scarce . In the final paragraph , Graham discusses how property he is interested in is for sale , and how he had passed on this information to a Joseph Hinam . Graham adds that Hinam will not buy any land until his year of active duty is over . Graham asks his father about the value of the land , and that if it is not over $600 , his father should consider buying it . He states that he will buy land if the price is right , and further speculates that the value of money will decrease now that the war , he believes , is ending soon . He wishes to send home some money , provided that he lives long enough to do so .
