Description
A photograph of an oil painting , painted by artists Andrew Blair (a landscape painter of Dunfermline) and William Geddes (a portrait painter of Blairgowrie) between 1881 and 1882 . This painting hangs in the foyer of the Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum , Dunfermline . The painting depicts the celebration of Andrew Carnegie's return to Dunfermline on July 27th , 1881 to lay the memorial stone of the first Carnegie Free Library . Andrew Carnegie is seen at the front of the first carriage to the right of the painting , raising his hat to the crowd that is gathered on High Street . His mother is seen beside the carriage conversing with a man and woman . The foreground middle and background features pedestrians along the street and the middle and background of the painting features buildings on both sides of the street . An American flag , Union Jack and Lion Rampant are seen hanging from the third floor of a building on the right side of the painting . There is a decorative frame surrounding the painting . Caption title. ; On cardboard mount : 26 x 35 cm
