A photograph showing five medals associated with the philanthropy of Andrew Carnegie ; for four of which the country of origin is discernible : France , Italy , the Netherlands , and the United States . The Italian medal contains a portrait of King Vittorio Emanuele III . The Dutch medal , dated 1904 , and the U.S . medal , dated 1906 , each contain a Maltese cross .
