Description
A photograph showing two medals pertaining to the Chamber of Commerce of the State of New York . The first bears the inscription "In honor of the guests who attended the dedicatory ceremonies on the opening of the building of the Chamber of Commerce. " The second bears the inscriptions "Ingenio suo urbis benefactor et rei publicae conservator " and "Abram Stevens Hewitt " and features a portrait of Hewitt , who had been an industrialist and inventor , as well as a U.S . Congressman and Mayor of New York . He was also a founder and trustee of the Carnegie Institution . The reverse side (not shown in photograph) includes the inscription "Rapid transit."Title supplied by cataloger. ; On cardboard mount : 26 x 35 cm
