Dear Mr. Carnegie:-
Your kindly telegram from Washington was received and answered last night. I was much disappointed at not being able to attend the annual meeting of the Washington Board. It is the first one I have missed. Bids were opened and contracts awarded yesterday and to-day for the interior wall decoration of the big Library Extension (and when I inform you that the space to be covered, walls, and ceilings, measures up thirty-three acres, you can see it is no small item), a book conveyor system and several other less important furnishings. As it was absolutely necessary that I should be present when the bids were opened, I had to forego the Washington meeting. The big building will be closed in by Christmas and much of the interior with the exception of the decoration and furnishing is completed. We are making every effort to thave it ready for occupancy by November 1st, next and I am not yet quite prepared to admit we will be unable to do so.
Yours very truly,
W.N. Frew
