Mr. Andrew Carnegie,
5 West 51st Street, New York. My Dear Mr. Carnegie:-
In conversation when you were here, you intimated to me a desire to renew for the year 1897 your offer of the very generous art prizes you made last spring. Mr. Beatty is now notifying the artists as to the date and conditions of the next exhibition and, if you are still of the same mind, will you kindly write me or Mr. John Caldwell, chairman of the Fine Arts Committee, a letter to that effect, similar to the one received from you, in regard to the prizes for this season. The artists should be notified of the prizes we propose to offer and, if you are to give them, we want to have you get the credit for them.
Yours truly,
