My dear no'u and f'r,
My rule is, to give ho a community that will furnish a suitable site and agree to pass an ordinance to tax itself for the maintenance of the Library, +-he sim necessary to erect a suitable building. If Lewiston gave a site and obligated
itself to pay $3 ,OOO^toward maintenance, that would liican^a. sum of $30,000 for the building. c
I arn very much opj)osed to endowment, of Public j,ibf series fi my feeling being that a community that will not agree to support a Librae is one for which a librae will do little good. We have plenty of towns willing to agree to those conditions and it is a great pleasure to me to feel almost every morning that another library is planted. I hope to ha^e the pleasure of doing that fov- Lewiston.
Very truly yours,
Senator j?rye,
Washington, D.C.
