I have been much interested in your plans for an astro-
nomical institute which should be free to the people, in connection with the new Allegheny Observatory. I see you have made excellent arrangements for a library of astronomical science, and I hope you will be able to raise the necessary funds to keep such a library up to date. Our own Library does not encroach upon the domain of astronomical science because we have always felt that you would, and should, have fehe astromonical collection for this vicinity, and that we should not spend
money for unnecessary duplication.
