The Captain's Wife and family on Board at the Time, Making a Total Lose of Life of Possibly Fifteen Souls—First Serious Lake Disaster of the Sanson. Tucntok, N. J„ Sept. 0.—About 800 of the leading Prohibitionists of the state met in confsrence hare yesterday. Among those pnmil were Thomas V. Cator, Dr. J. B. Giaw, William H. Butler, Gen. Clinton B. A number of adilrt-iMvS by prominent delegates followed. All urged a vigorous campaign this fall. Tba comajlttee on resolutions reported * platform reasserting the doolaratlons of the Mate convention of 1881 It farther deolarss that the little regard of the two political parties for the reduction of the liquor trafflo is shown by the fact that nslthar introduced any insecure in the last legislature to restrict snch traffic. It submits to the Christian temperance people of this state whether they can longer support political parties whiuh have no control of their representatives to obtain temperance legislation or to prevent the legalising of gambling, as was done by the Monmouth Park pool bill passed last winter. While In every political party various matters of policy are set forth, yet in every party there must be one supreme and dominant issue. Ws declare the extermination of the liquor traffic to be the supreme political fesaa, and to ha the only test of party fsalty, and that no person be nominate* or indorsed by the Prohibition party as a candidate for any office unless such person bs openly an avowed and consistent member of said Prohibition party, and aides* he has wholly separated himself from all other political parties. It commends honest labor, but condemns any but peaceable mean* to redrew wrongs. No man has any right to prevent any other roan faun performing honest labor upon his own terms. It affirms that the suppression of the liquor traffic is of th* greatest Importance, mors SO than any question sow pending, and otivttaal prohibition ii affirmed to be the only method by which this can be accomplished. This Is held to be feasible, and the fault of those who call themselves temperance men that each a party is not now in possssalon of the law maklug and law enforcing power. Speeches were made during the call of the essmtiea Speaking for Hudson oounty, Mr. Cator enid that oa account of the chowder slabs and the Mmmm of the Horseshoe district prohibition had but little show in that county. Bat It is evident that some workmen are quick and others slow, some skilful and others careless, and that tbey should be oompenaated alike is not right It is preposterous. And this principle extends to other workers than those who toil with their hands. There are miniaters whose eloquence charms, instructs and quickens spiritual Ufa and its enjoyment, while there are others whops dullness will lull you to deep, and the same difference extends to lafryers and others whose work is intellectual rather than manual, and no man claims that equality of compensation should prevail here." Governor Hill said he believed in trade organisation* as well as in farmers' alliances when tbey ware rightly conducted. "But none of theee combinations can revise the laws of the world. J„ Sept. 0.—About 800 of the leading Prohibitionists of the state met in confsrence hare yesterday. Among those pnmil were Thomas V. Cator, Dr. J. B. Giaw, William H. Butler, Gen. Clinton B. Flak, William BissslL a & Ramson, E. L. Massat and others. Chairman Cator, of tba stats committee, called the conference to otd-r. Gvh. Fisk was made chairman and William E Littls secretary. In the evening a Mass mee Ing was held, it which speeches wsTe made by Gen. Fisk, T. V. Cator, the Re* J. B. Graw, SViulk C. Smith, of Cumberland, and others. Tbe captain'* name was H. Clement "Some say nowadays they think all workmen should be equally compensated.
