Wrecked an Express Train on Illinois Springfield, 111., Sept. 21—The Diamond special, on the Illinois Central railroad, due here at 4:30 a. m., was wrecked at Barclay, 15 miles south of here. The fireman was killed and the engineer seriously injured. The passengers escaped uninjured. The accident was caused by train wreckers. The switch light had been extinguished, the lock broken, and the switch turned so that the train would leave the main track and run into the mine of the Barclay Coal Co. Kuropatlfln, under yesterday's date For several days past workmen have been engaged in a search for the cornerstone in the foundation of the old St. James" church ediflco, on Water street, it being desired to secure the articles iu the stone and place them, with others, in the cornerstone of the new church that is being constructed on Charles street. There Is no doubt whatever about a cornerstone having been placed In the foundation, as the records of the church make the statement that it was laid in 1858 with ecclesiastical and Masonic ceremonies. There are several persons living now who were present at the ceremonies, but there is a difference of opinion among them as to the location of the stone. Two of the corners, one at the front and one at the rear of the structure, have been inspected, without, success. A more thorough search will probably be made, and the flies of the Gazette, now in the Historical Society's possession at Wilkesbarre, will be inspected, In the,hope that the reiDort of the cornerstone laying may mention the exact location of the stone. Kuropatlfln, under yesterday's date For several days past workmen have been engaged in a search for the cornerstone in the foundation of the old St. James" church ediflco, on Water street, it being desired to secure the articles iu the stone and place them, with others, in the cornerstone of the new church that is being constructed on Charles street. There Is no doubt whatever about a cornerstone having been placed In the foundation, as the records of the church make the statement that it was laid in 1858 with ecclesiastical and Masonic ceremonies. There are several persons living now who were present at the ceremonies, but there is a difference of opinion among them as to the location of the stone. Two of the corners, one at the front and one at the rear of the structure, have been inspected, without, success. A more thorough search will probably be made, and the flies of the Gazette, now in the Historical Society's possession at Wilkesbarre, will be inspected, In the,hope that the reiDort of the cornerstone laying may mention the exact location of the stone.
