The Icelanders are almost inconveniently hospitable. It is difficult to get a farmer, who keeps you for a day or two, to accept pay. FIRE WORKS CONSTANTLY ON HAND. PhlU Apr 10.10 mo». A Paris letter to the Indianapolis News says : "I quite forgot everything, myself included, as I watched the feats of a mesmerist with a beautiful young lady. He wasa great burly fellow, dressed in the toggery of an English juggler. She was lithe and Spirituelle, in a rich dress with flowing sleeves. She stood on a stool on a dias resting on a magnificent great square of Turkey carpet. He made a few passes over her, but not at first touching her, then pressing his hands about her face with a sort of dumb incantation.apr •», 74 Wm. FENNEK. A question now interesting the people living along the Susquehanna river, is that of improved canal navigation. There lias been a committee of the United States Senate engaged for some time in examining proposed water routes from the west to the east for the purpose of deciding upon the most feasible and least costly of construction. Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania are interested in this business because the termini of this great ship canal must be located in one or the other of these three States, and in crossing the State to be selected will of course add great importance to its local commerce and increase the developement of the resources now hidden beneath its soil, or laying neglected above its surface. Several weeks ago, Gen. Cameron made a motion in tiie United States Senate to procure a survey of the Susquehanna river, or rather of the Susquehanna Valley, to see whether a canal could l»e successfully carried through that, or whether the river itself could be improved for navigable purposes. In 1833 it was proposed to occupy the Susquehanna Valley by,a canal, and a small line running through the State covered the extent of that route, which had to give way, however, to the railroad interebt, and at last the capacity and resources of the Susquehanna Valley seemed UD have been forgotten. Gen. Cameron's present movement in viow of the general demand for cheap transportation is to re-occupy their line by a more capacious canal, one equal in all respects to that of the Erie canal. A line branching from the Eric canal at a point one hundred and lifty miles east of Buffalo, and using the Seneca lake, the North branch and the main storn of the Susquehanna river might be made to terminate on the Delaware Hay, and the point of termination would not be farther from Buffalo than is the city of New York by way of the Erie canal. The opportunity now occurs to the people of the Susquehanna Valley to develop this fact by means proposed by General Cameron. The people living in the several Congressional districts of this region can best sustain their Senator by petitions to Congress urging the necessity of this survey.
