No increase in borough taxes; is . anticipated by the Budget? a n d Finance Committee. By paying' off the fire tnick loan: an additional- $5,000.00 will'be available for the . year 1969 enabling the finance committee, to- grant p a y raises and allocate $2,000.00 for-the purchase of a'new police, car without disturbing the present tax . structure of the boroupi. .. Three major itemswere covered at the Sewickley Borough Council meeting on Monday evening. The most important to borough residents would be the" matter of a budget for 1969." A complete run down of all items indicates an increase'in spending in <many departments. The te-tative budget, has total expedi-tures amounting to $468,840.00. The -budget for 1968 called for expenditures of; $428,635.00. This 1 means an increase in spending of $40,205 00- In order to balance -the budget council will have to increase real estate taxes 2 mills ' bringing the total , rate to 16 . mills. ,It was felt by all members A present that this and the Occupation* Privilege Tax previously enacted would meet "the budget needs. Bids were received and opened 'for the purchase of 350 new parking meters. Rockwell submitted a bid of $66-00 for each meter with a trade allowance -of $18.00 on each of the old meters. Koontz Equipment submitted bids on three models as follows: $50.50 and $59.50 on single meters and $114.50 on a double meter. Their bid also allowed a trade on the old meters amounting to $7.50. It was decided by council that this represented a large expenditure and that the committee involved should make a detailed study and comparison report be sub* mitted to. council atr- a later date. Mr. Don Wilkinson, the tax col-; lection agent employed by the borough, appeared before council and submitted a complete report of his agencies collection activities to date. He stated that as a result -of their census, 474 persons have been added to the tax., roles. Of this number, 34 have been contacted and have filed unpaid taxes amounting to $5095-27. Another item in his report stated ''that 1614 notices had been sent out on delinquent per capita taxes. Mr. Willdnson stated that there would be a person from his agency in the borough on the last two Mondays of each quarter between the hours of 1 and 6 - p.m., for the convenience of those persons wishing to pay' their taxes in person rather than mail-, ing them to his office* Two Dates Scheduled School Joinivprtf Architects Die . ■ '*■ * ; Two men. who have been credited with being most influential In the development of the Quaker Valley'School District operation, died within a couple of days of each other. James Clarke of Sewickley and* Dr. Williahi Hutchison of Leetsdale died mi Nov. 16 and Nov. 18' respectively. See obituaries on page 16. Plans Small Tax Increase' The, Osborne Borough Council meeting-on Nov. 14 was in.gen-; eral, “business as usual.” There were no major problems to be taken care of as each committee /epofted that everything was progressing in a normal manner. One thing that did come up for discussion was the. fact that two. dogs; in the borough Had be'en poisoned. There was no evidence as to how this happened but council did suggest that people within the borough that owned dogs should-keep them close to home tinder control. After all regular business matters had been taken care of council proceeded to a Matter of a tentative budget for 1969. After a great deal of study and discussion the budget was set at $47,659.00. This is "a larger budget than was set for 1968 and will require a minimum increase in taxes of 1 mill bringing the total borough millage to 22 mills. The .-proposed budget will be posted ill the secretary's office. Last week, the .Borough of Edgeworth announced plans to increase municipal taxes for the year 1969. ’ Quaker High Chorus At the'regular monthly meeting of the Quaker Valley District School Board oh Monday evening, the Q. V. High School Chorus Was given perm&sion to make two special- appearances during the 1968 Holiday season. The first will be at the Greater Pittsburgh Airport' the week of Dec. 16-23 with time of their performance to be announced later. Its second date comes on Dec. 21 when the group will appear at the Joseph Horne Co. in Pittsburgh at 7 p.m. The group is under the direction. of Leon Szura. ", The high school band, under the direction of Walter Iecobucti will participate in the "Welcome to Santa Claus Parade” in Sew-ickley the morning of Saturday) Nov. 30. It was also announced that Mr. Iacobucci Would be attending the American School Band Directors Association Convention in M i* aihi, Fla. the week of Nov. 29 - Dec. 3. ’ He has been invited to -join the • organization which is an honor reserved for outstanding music directors throughout the country.
