\ Th e Herald The Sewickley Valley's Home-News Weekly Vol. XXVI. No. 27. SEWICKLEY, PA., FRIDAY, MARCH 15, 1929 Price 5 Cents. >* in w >■ w »ji»iyj^H-V Valley Ufospital 3\api&lY ^tearing (Tomplttion IluSSj) Tho now Valley Hospital is going up surprisingly fast to the people who only get a glimpse of it now and then, but to J. F. Weinberg, construction superintendent for the Hutter Construction Company, the work seems slow, as he has been hold up by delay in the delivery of steel door frames. Also there wero threo days last week that were lost due to the weather and -two days of the week before. In fact, the last two weeks have delayed the work more than any weather all through the winter. That was due mostly to the character of the work in which the majority of the men are employed, which is finishing the roof. A layer of cement is poured over steel lath, then an inch of heavy" insulating cork, then another layer of Mailcrete, Which is concrete used to hold the nails through the slate covering. A layer of water proof paper is then laid over the nailcrete and the slate on that, Mr. Weinberg expects to complete the roofing, with tlie exception of tho slate, by Monday or Tuesday of next weok. Tlie company is ten days behind schedule in beginning the inside partitions because of delay in getting the door frames, and so the heating and plumbing contractors have also fallen a littlo behind their schedule. The hugo brick smoke Stack is finished and in fact all of the brick work oxcept for tho side walls of the pent house on the roof has been completed. The rain water drains aro all built up almost to the roof, ready for the final connections. Over one hundred men are working steadily on the construction and there have been only minor accidents such as a load of bricks falling on the superintendent's head, inflicting a two-imch gash. Considering tlie winter weather, Mr. Weinberg is of the opinion that the company is making fair progress to have so much clone in five and a half months time. He expects to finish the job entirely by the first of August this yoar, barring any unforeseen delays. The view of Sewickley from the upper floors of the new building is quite magnificent and even the back View gives on the wooded hillside which rises up to the cemetery. Tho stairs are in the building, so it is not a difficult task for a curious Sightseer to travel all ovor the building, so long .is the authorities do not object. Tho bottom two floors, built up against the hillside as they are, are rather gloomy with many shadowy pillars standing upright in the room. On the upper floors, on the contrary, everything is b/right and cheerful, especially on the sun porches built out on tho east end' oi tho building. There is also a roof which will give convalescent patients plenty of room to wheel themselves around in their chairs aiid watch the baseball games on tlie T field across the road. Tho new building seems to bo eminently suited for its purpose and many people in the Valley are anxious to seo tho finished product. KIWANIS-LEGION MINSTREL SHOW TONIGHT SEWICKLEY HIGH SCHOOL '.
