INGRAM Mr. Ingram becomes burgess with the New Torn. His election last mouth was a notable victory for the elements favoring a change in the borough's administration policies. Mr. Ingram has sorted four years in couru.il> with a record of independence, courage and apparent willingness to strive for what ho considered the best interests oi: tho borough. Mr. Ingram is employed in the office of the H. II. Eobertson Co., Ambridge. Born in Sewickloy, October 4, 1896, he has lived here ever since; served in tho World War, September, 1916, to April, 191!), in the Gas Defense Division, Chemical Warfare Service, being stationed at Long Island City, New York. Ho is married and has one child. He promises to be "an active, independent burgess." . i "»»™, <— iiminp ^eoiinning l\)d 5lew tytar WATCH NIGHT Churches to Welcome the New Year There are to bo Watch Night services at several of the local churches, at which tho midnight ringing in of tho Now Year will bo tho climax of appropriate exorcises. It was a custom formerly for churches to foster this service as an aid to tho spiritual lifo of tho church and community. It was a call for repentances and resolution. And what is moro needed at this timo than sueh a call and challenge! It will bo interesting to soo what tho rosponso will bo. Wo feel sure tho peoplo will welcome tlio return to tho old religious way of greeting tho New Year. The Presbyterian Churcli, aftor ^nearly twenty years, has arranged for such a service, beginning Sunday evening at eleven o'clock. Tho last one hold in that church was during the pastorate of Dr. Hugh L. Hodge, early in the war-time. Dr. Owen D. Odell, tho minister, will speak on "Courage for 1934." The groat inspiring hymns of tho Church, such as "How Firm a Foundation," "Jesus, Lover of My Soul," "Eock of Ages," "Ton Thousand Times Ten Thousand," and others, will bo sung, led by tho church choir. Tho Now Year will bo welcomed by silence, prayer, the ringing of tho bolls and happy greetings. Tho service is for overy one. At tho Methodist Church, tho Watch Night soi'vico will begin at 10 s 30 Sunday night. There will bo singing of. tho old songs, special music by the choir, a sermon by tho pastor, Dr. J. Vernon Wright, Tho service will close at tho stroke of midnight, after which there will bo an hour of fellowship, and refreshments will bo served. There will bo a Watch Night service .at St. Matthew's A. M. E. Zion Church, from cloven o'clock to 12:01 a. m. Other churches will also observo tho New Year in their several Sunday services. OPEN HOUSE AT THE "Y" Program of Activities for All Ages At Sewickiey YMCA,. New Year's Day will be observed by an Open House prograv.*. .' ' 1""j many attractivo features, to which all YMCA members and thoir friends are invited. At 9:30 in tho morning, the Boys' Division will enjoy Olympic Games and swimming pool events. At 2 p.m. the Senior Division Events begin: a volley ball game, Sewickiey vs. Now Brighton; basket ball, Sewiekley vs. Boreins of Ambridge; and wrestliing matches, in which some of the A. A. U. champions will tako part. At 2:30 there will be the annual swimming meet, in which the Cadets, Juniors and Intermediate members will tako part; at four comes the "family swim"—an informal splash party for members and their families. At live o'clock the football returns from the Eoso Bowl will be heard. At eight o'clock there will be an entertainment program, with tho Kus- siau Choir singing folk songs, W. H. Wilson, magician, and the Valley Entertainers in a varied program. And then a regular "Old-Fashioned Party" with games, square dances and contests. Mi-, and Mrs. Howard Paine will load this part of the program.
