Morrow of Maple Lane, Shields, lias boen promoted to first lieutenant, it was announced by the War Department last week. ■Promoted To Major Captain Maitland Alexander, Jr., of Sewiekley Heights, has been promoted to tho rank of Major, the War Department announced last week. •Marshall 0. Baumgartel, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Baumgartel, Ron to 2, Sewickley, has won art early promotion in tho Navy at Groat Lakes, 111., as result of liis past civilian training. Because ho has had sufficient ex* porienco in a trade essential iii tho Navy, ho waa advanced to tho Tating of "Fireman, socond class upon completing his recruit training at tho IT. S. Naval 'Training Station. Now homo on leave, _ie will report back to tho Station for ro-assignmont to active duty aboard a naval warship or to soino naval shore station. Two brothers in tho service recently met most -unexpectedly at home, after a year and a half apart. -George Hegner Kuipers, Ensign in the Naval Reserve, came homo on a one-day leave to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John P. Kuipors} after his fifth convoy voyage across the Atlantic. And on that clay his brother Bill (Lieutenant j.g. "William P. -Kuipers) also arrived on tho first clay of his ten-day leave; lie is in tho "net and fuel" work of .tho Navy; Stationed at Portsmouth, Va., for tho past three mouths, he has now been transferred to Norfolk, Va. George received good news oil his return to duty; ho had been promoted to tho rank of Lieutenant, junior grade. At Carlstrom Field Aviation Cadet Robert Martin Ingram, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert M. Ingram of Woods Place, Sowickley, has completed his pro-flight training, and is now taking his first flying lessons at Carlstrom Pield, Arcadia, Florida. After nine weeks there lie will be assigned to a basic flying school. Contract Let for Economy Restoration William H. Hoffman, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Hoffman of R. D. No. 1, Sewickley, was inducted this month, and has entered the Army Air Corps. "First Lieutenant George (Potter O'Neil is in the .Southwest Pacific area, in the Nn.val Aeronautic Division. Ho entered the service a year and a half ago; for a time ho was stationed in an area ho couldn't nnmo beyond stating that "ho had a pet kangaroo;" since then lie has been transferred to some other part of the war theatre. Awarding of a contract for the restoration of the grounds at old Economy means the preparation of another of tho State's historic spots for tho enjoyment of post-war visitors, says Floyd Chalfant, Secretary of .Commerce, at Harrisburg. The contract was awardod to a McKeesport firm, and will entail the expenditure of approximately $11,000. After litigation, tho 'Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in 1905, .received title to a block and a half .of land, including the Geat House, tho Pca'st Hall, the community gardens, granary, shops, the community kitchen, typical dwellings, and other buildings. Restoration of the buildings began a few years ago under the direction of the State Historical Commission. Now the restoration of the grounds will make the old-time scene complete, tho Secretary says. , .J****
