SEWICKLEY, PA„ THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 1943 Price Five Cents ''^anksgivmof' Ofyrougfy l\)d ICmoit .Aid Society At the Thanksgiving Union Service in the Presbyterian Church next Thursday, the collection will as usual be given to the Union Aid Society. For 44 years this Society has helped families where there is no employable person or where illness or advanced age has brought special difficulties. These disturbed and uncertain times have brought additional and different problems to the attention of the Union Aid Society. Widowed mothers are being tempted, by high wages, to leave their young children in incompetent hands. Often wise counsel helps these mothers to realize the importance of keeping the family togther and the Union Aid Society can assist financially, enabling them to stay hi the home. ( An experienced social worker is required to assist in solving complicated family problems and to cope with the various situations which arise. The Board is most fortunate in having Mrs. Carolyn Mohn in this capacity and feels great confidence in her experience and ability to meet each crisis. Mrs, Mohn is familiar with all other agencies, private and government, and co-operates with then\, eliminating overlapping. Cases eligible for care under other agencies are given emergency assistance whenever necessary. Other cases,, not covered by any agency, become the particular problem of the Union Aid Society. During the past year there have been 600 office inter view's, 1,698 telephone calls and 960 visits to the homes of clients. 55 eases are now active. The Union Aid Society, not receiving State or other support, is entirely dependent upon the contributions of this community to build up a fund which is available for emergencies.
