No. 2, Sewickiey. Mr. Ingram is' seen still in the (Photo by Jim Addison) driver’s seat of his wrecked Plymouth being questioned by Lt. Lee S. Jones. The Comet, which was wrecked both front, and rear, is owned by Walter Worth of 808 Beaver Street. Aston, 20 Beaver Street, Sewickiey, who celebrated her century of living on Thursday, May twenty-fourth by receiving friends at her home and at a tea at the Sewickiey United Presbyterian Church. Daily Vacation Bible School The Sewickiey Ministerial Association has set the date for tire two week session- of Daily Vacation Bible School to start JMonday, June 18, and to close Friday morning, June 29th. They also named flip Reverend Lawrence S. Elliott as Director of the school, Mr, Elliott, announces the following persons to serve as superintendents; Mjs. George Woodham, Superintendent of die Kindergarten Department which will meet in the Sewickiey Methodist Church from 9:00 to 11 a.m. Mrs. Nathaniel McBride, Superintendent of Primary Department which will meet in the United Presbyterian Church, 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. each day. Mrs. Ruth Brothers, Superintendent of the Junior Department’, which will meet in the'Sewickiey Presbyterian .Church', 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. each day. The graduation exercises will be held Thursday, June 28, at the St. Matthew's A.M.E. Zion Church. , The teachers will be selected from all the churches of the Valley who have teachers who are available. The Daily Vacation Bible School is supported from volunteer contributions from churches and individuals. Dr. Lockhart Amerman is treasurer. Miss Marguerite M, Ducker, Administrator of Sewickiey Valley Hospital, Monday received a ten-year service pin from William K. Fitch, President of the Board of Trustees, at the seventh annual reception for long-time employees of the hospital. Mr. Fitch said that the hospital board appreciates what employees do for the hospital, which has two employees for every'patient. As a member of thè Hospital Association of Pennsylvania, Mr. Fitch is in contact with a number of hospitals and their administrators, and said Sewickiey Valley is lucky to have Miss Ducker, who *\vorks too many hours and docs a pretty »wonderful job for the hospital.” ’ Mental Health , Workshop At Center . On Monday, June 4 at the Laugh-lin Children’s Center, the Sewickiey Valley Mental Health Council will conduct a day-long workshop to inform program chairmen and leaders-in other organizations about tho resources offered on mental health. Included in the meeting will be the following experts! Dr. William Ogston, Psychiatrist at Dixmont State Hospital; Dr. Frank Lackner, Psychologist at Chatham College; Mrs. Virginia Bradley, Allegheny ‘ County Health Department, Mrs. Margaret I-Iomeyer and Miss Mariana Bing, United Mental Health services representatives. SPECIAL SEWICKLEY COUNCIL MEETING JUNE 1 Sowlcklcy council will hold a special meeting on Friday, June 1, at 8 p.m., for general purposes. Quaker Valley Schools The Committee approved the attached sheets of summarization and recommendations by.the several standing committeés of bids for supplies and equipment for the school year 1962-63. The Curriculum and Faculty Committee summarized the following: General instructional supplies and art supplies for a combined total of $8,614.46, minus a group discount of $50, for a net bid price of $8,-564.46; Kurtz Brothers, duplicator and mimeograph paper, $1,965.49; duplicator arid mimeograph supplies, divided among ten bidders for a total price of $2,646.29. The Activities -Committee summarized athletic supplies and equipment, divided among seven bidders, for a total of $2,336.45. The Property Committee recommended Anchor Painting and Roofing Company, Aliquippa, for low bidder on painting the Sewickiey elementary school, $2,190.00, and the International Harvester Company for low bidder On a -tractor, rotary mower and snow-plow, for a total of $635.00; general maintenance supplies awarded to eighteen low bidders, for a total of $10,220.60. The 'Transportation Committee summarized bids on gasoline, oil, and lubes, and their recommendation to award the-bid to Mobil Oil Co., McKees Rocks, for a total bid of $5,536.63, was approved. The International Harvester C<5., Pittsburgh, was awarded the contract for three school buses with Wayne bodies, total, $20,612.56. The Finance Committee recommendation that refunds in the Authority Rental Account, in the amount of $4,803.03, be paid to the six districts which have made their payments, and that the balance in the account ($195.00) remain in the account. Those districts .to receive refunds are Aleppo, Glenfield, 'Hays-ville, Leet, Leetsdale, and Osborne. The Committee approved the recommendation of tlie Finance Committee that the insurance on the additions of tlie secondary schools, written by Myers and in the amount of $1,920,000, which expires June 1, 1962, be added temporarily to the blanket fire insurance policy which expires in September, 1962. The whole insurance program" is being ■studied and a recommpndation will be forthcoming. The Leetsdale Borough School District will be reimbursed by the Jointure in tho ¿mount of $532.41 for State Appropriation paid on account of recreation during tho . 1961-62 school year on 1960-61 costs. Tho recommendation of the Curriculum and Faculty Committee that tho supplementary salary schedule submitted to the Joint Committee at its meeting on April 16 be reviewed, elicited long discussion. The Curriculum and Faculty Committee and a Supplementary Salary Committee have been working for several months on salary schedules designed to set a starting salary, and to give teaoh-ers raises based on time of service, education, etc., plus tlie State mandated raises. Mr. Dill stated that the eonitmttco feels it important that a salary structure be adopted for 1962-63, tho foundation for tho institution of a Merit Plan for 1963-64. After much discussion the following motion was approved; that a salary program be followed for the 1962-63 School Year as might be modified by the administration with the- Curriculum and Faculty Committee, that Table I be a general guide under which they distribute the amount allocated for teachers’ salaries in the 1962-63 budget, and that the "full amount budgeted be used,* and that a starting. salary of $4,500 be used, . The final' day of the 1961-62 term will be Wednesday,' June 13. A School Calendar was adopted, with 180 school days and 185 teacher days. The schedule, with vacation days, is as follows: August 30 — • Faculty Orientation Day (New Teachers) - September 4 — Faculty Orientation. No school for pupils.
