Harrisburg from the 17th District, answers questions of Nancy. Payne and Gordon Kautz who will vote for the first time this November 6th. The Sewickley Valley Republican Com-, mittee has had a booth set up at Knapp’s Drug Store oh .Saturday mornings to answer questions about the forthcoming Field Registration on Tuesday, August 28th, from noon until 9 p.m. at the Sewickley Elementary School, Broad Street, Sewickley.. . . New registrations, change of address and reinstatements can all be handled tight here in Sewickley at the Field Registration. Those who will be 21 on or before November 7, 1962, will be eligible to vote in this November’s election. Students who will be away at school'during November, can register now and vote by absentee ballot. Senior 8-40 Group to Give Melodrama The senior Eight-Forty Group at the Edgeworth Club will present ,‘Lily, the Felon’s Daughter,” a three-act Gay, Nineties melodrama on Saturday, September first, at 6:30 p.m. A buffet supper, dancing and swimming will follow» The senior cast: Bill Fowler as Jonas Faurweather; Mary Roberts as Betsy Fairweathcr; A1 Amslcr as Lord Montmorency; Bob Wôod as Compton-Montmorency; (Boyd Photo) Jane Black as Lily Montmorency; Dari Williams as Craven Sinclair; Dave Crockett, Sr., as Robin Steel; Bobbie Blaxter as Ophelia Fairweathcr; Chris Black, a stand-ifi for Marie and Sally Pease as Mrs, Kingsley. The Junior Eight-Forty Group will present the same spectacular on Monday, September third, at seven o’clock. Six New Teachers Hired For Q.V. Schools Fourteen Cafeteria Employees Complete .Probationary Period And Are Hired The Quaker Valley Joint Schools Committee met on Monday evening, August 20, in the Junior high school library. There were eight members present. The resignations of three teachers in the Quaker Valley system were accepted with regret, and six new teachers were hired, one for part time work. On Thursday, August' thirtieth, there will be an Orientation Day for all of the new teachers in the system. The morning session will be devoted to filling out Social Security forms, certificate numbers, etc., and with a tour of the Quaker Valley area. In the afternoon the teachers will tour their own school and meet with the Principals. 'Each* neW teacher will be accompanied by an experienced teacher, who will act as guide and be able to answer questions. This will be the first year this.has been tried, and Dr. Bedison said they felt a great deal of time will be saved, and that each new teacher will feel better acquainted with his or her new surroundings. The motion made at the July meeting not to accept the applications of five students from Harmony Township, was rescinded at Monday’s meeting, by a vote of 5 to 2. Dr. Bedison said that between last month’s meeting and now, seven students of the tenth grade have withdrawn from the Quaker Valley System. He conferred with Dr. McNamara, and with the guidance personnel, and their decision, based on home-room and class size, and on individual' class schedules, was that these five students could be. absorbed into the tenth grade without hurting students from our own district. Mr. Krane, who with Mr. Marlde, voted “no” to the motion to rescind, stated, that the ‘ difference of these few students did not lessen the overcrowded situation in the tenth grade, which has ten sections this year compared with six sections last year, the largest class in the entire jointure. He had* also had numerous telephone calls urging that the children be accepted, and he wondered if Some pressure had been brought to (Continued on Page 12) Quaker Valley Schools Registration Information New students( other than kindergarten or first grade) entering Quaker Valley Joint Schools may register on Monday or Tuesday, August 27 and 28, 1962, in the school offices, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.,- and from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Time schedule follows: Quaker Valley High School, Leetsdale, Monday and Tuesday; Quaker Valley Junior High School, Sewickley, Monday and Tuesday; Edgeworth Elementary, Edgeworth, Monday and Tuesday; Fair Oaks Monday; Leetsdale Elementary School, Leetsdale, Tuesday; Sewickley Elementary School, Sewickley, Monday and Tuesday (Students from Osborne and Glenfield may register at the Sewickley Building). Registration prior to the opening of school on Wednesday, September 5, will ,, enable the newcomer to. participate with his new grbup. Borough Doubles * Wage Tax Receipts New Four-Wheel Drive Fire Truck ' , Assembled By Borough Employees Sewickley Heights council, at its regular meeting on Monday heard a report that reminders sent to residents had resulted ir doubling the amount of wage-income tax collected, compared with last year’s collection. In July, $2,960 was collected, makine a total of $24,591 for the year to date. Manager Trimble reported that work by borough employees on the new Dodge four-wheel drive fire truck is nearly completed, with trimming, decking, rails and lights installed. Fire drills wert held so that each man drove the truck, in heavyroff-the-road ter rain, simulating brush or field fire conditions. On Friday, Augus 3rd, a preliminary meeting and drill was held with member: ot the proposed volunteer fire company. A resolution was passed setting up the rules and regulations governing the new voluntèei fare company, putting general control under the manager ant specific control at the scene of a blaze under the police-fire chief Insurance is provided for the members. Council parsec! a resolution of thanks and appreciation ' to Chief William J. Cord, Herbert Ford and Walter J. Merriman for their work in assembling die new Dodge fire truck at much less cost than a commercial vehicle. The now truck hns the advantage over commercial trucks in being able to drive over fields spraying water as it goes to extinguish fires.
