It was built about Civil War times, or a little after, and many years sang in the choir at the First Preshytòrian Church. Lizzie married ail iron and steel broker, and more about her in a moment. Jennie married the partner of Mr* Hostetier, the Pittsburgher who made a famous “bitters* mostly alcohol, imbibed medicinally (one large tablospoon in a half-glass of water) hy teetotalers, The point is that Tillio and Jennie moved áway from Sewickley, and Lizzie stayed on, ___ ..trs. ‘ . —1---- . Lebanon Aqua Club on Saturday, April 7. Libby Kurlak earned-third place in the SO yard free style events Libby, with her teammates’ Kathy Kurlak, Bebe Reilly and Beth Lyon, won second place in the 200 yard free style relay* This marked the first time that this relay team has been beaten all year, One week ago, our girls Won over the team that beat them at this meet. Lynn, Gfáy also swam with the relay team in past §>vim meets. . : Friday and Saturday óür 'Y* boys' team will h? represented at the-State YMCA meet at Gettysburg College by Steve Pnrtenheimeiy who will be swimming the 50 yard fjco style (Steve finished third in the West. Penna* finals)} ¡Danny Nadlcr, in. the 25 yard butterfly (Dan finished fourth inr mo West. Pcnrta* finals); jay Hog-ner in the 25 yard breast stroke (Jay finished eighth in the finals); and the Junior Free Style Relay team of Brian Rader, Dale Sirinek, Dave Prefer, and Dick Boyd, Dick Boyd finished second'in the Junior Division 50 yard freo style. Edgeworth couucil, at* its regular meeting on Monday night,' adopted n resolution opposing H.B. 320, H.B. 641 and H.B. 1002, recently introduced into the House of Representatives proposing a reduction in the retirement age of policemen from sixty to fifty-five, , ■“ ■' - K ;■ - ’ ■ ■ ' Reasons' 'given were that the bills are another attempt by the ; Assembly of Pennsylvania to formulate and determine Borough personnel policy, which should be solely formulated mid deter- * mined by the respective boroughs; the bills, if enacted, will substantially Increase the cost of providing retirement benefits for policemen and cause a rise in borough taxes* constitutinga distinct arid definite threat to the fiscal integrity of municipal government arid 'will further extend the already inequiquiable and mandatory retirement system under which police receive preferential treatment, since /they are eligible for retirement at age 60, as compared with non-pòlice employees who at best are eligible for-retirement at age* 65. ‘ * ’ ” ~ " .The resolution also stated that the! bills-if enacted, would cause smaller municipalities to disband their police forces, making fewer'^ police' jobs available. The new^iretiremént age, if adopted, : : would make : it financially, impossible to keep;-up pension plans and would; also make it unlikely that any Wage increases could be granted the future. Also, juvenile delinquency a n d other crimes are best ♦fought with capable policemen and municipalities could not afford as many good officers if the pension cost go much higher than they are; now*' The resolution will be-sent to t h e legislators of this district and to the state and county boroughs* associa-, tïoiis. ‘ \ ' ; The pension committee was asked to review the whole pension system of the borough and check for possible economies. Council also passed _ resolution requesting the State Highways Department to permit a 40 mile an hour speed limit on the Ohio River Boulevard. It was pointed out that * in the court hearing on the Amoco gasoline station on the boulevard, that, accidents were likely to occur if the permit was granted. The permit was ’granted. and the only accident reported in March took place in the driveway into .the Amoco station. It occurred at" 7:18 pan. oil March 10, when Willie MbCIain, of Aliquip-pn, attempted to make a right turn off the* boulevard awhile driving east, into the driveway of the station, his car was hit in the rear by a following car. The operator of the second car, stopped and viewed the damage, but* left the scene without giving his name Or address. The ïear of the M<> Clain car was damaged considerably, but no one was injured* During the months there were 40 arrests; “21 for speeding, 8 for running red lights; 8 for stop sign violations and one cadi for reckless driving, no lights and disorderly conduct. The borough purchased two stop watches for checking-speed on Beaver Road and made four arrests there. There were 44 ’ requests for p . service answered and one fire inarm. That was* at 11:04 a.m. on March 2nd, When Mrs, Andrew Kozak, 470 Maple Lane, reported that the furn ace had blown up. The hoiiso was filled With smoko fròm wires and insulation in the blower and air conditioning portion of the furnace* Firemen turned off the furnace and vont cd the house. ^ The Firo Department, using funds [raised »at the annual dance, purchased a new resusitàtôr à n d a Scott air pack, council was informed.
