Until the third quarter of the game, he was the only Quaker Valley player to score a touchdown all season. His 66-yard broken-field scamper on Saturday was the fifth touchdown he had scored so far this season, all on ' t h e return of punts. Despite the World’s Series on TV, a good, but not an overflovy crowd occupied the grandstand, with the Coraopolis team* band and rooters on the temporary bleachers across the field ^ «& 4 ■ score, when he crossed the Coraopolis goaf line on a seven-yard plunge. The extra point was missed by Oswald. Jerry Threadgill^ added the -final touchdown in a 10-yard roll-out to his right in the final quarter. Again the point was missed by Oswald, but the 19 points were plenty to win against Coraopolis, which went down to its fifth straight defeat this season. ■■■■ ■;._ . From die beginning^ the shop advertised fconsis* tcntly in the Herald with the result that it is a successful venture as it celebrates its first (Village Photos) anniversary. The first anniversary advertisement appears on Page 8 of this peek’s Herald. The owners wish to thank the people of Sc-wicklcy for their patronage and the Herald joins in thanking its readers for patronizing one of its consistent advertisers* Invalid Carried From Smoke-Filled House , Overheated Mangle Caught Fire And Filled House With Dense Smoke Quick work by Edgeworth police and firemen which possibly saved the life of an invalid in a fire; was praised by Edgeworth occurred at its regular meeting on Monday, October 9th. The blaze occured at 11:20 p.m. on Thursday, September Sisk when a mangle was discovered on fire in the basement of 214 Quaker Road. Thick, acrid smoke filled the house, and a nurse in attendance of Miss Margaret Adair, phoned the Edgeworth borough building. Police, who'arrived first, were informed that Miss Adair was bedfast and carried her to safety. Firemen then arrived, extinguished the blazing mangle, and ventilated the house thor-‘ The mangle was a total loss, but the fire was kept from spreading to the house. The fire department arrived, in three minutes, according to a report “by Manager Robert Lunn. The fire department had two other blazes toHSght in September in accord with dys saying that fires come in threes. At 1:30 p.m. on September 20, the roof of the platform shelter at Shields Station of the’Pennsylvania Railroad, was discovered afire. Tire blaze~was extinguished by the firemen, using the water carried in the tank on the truck. , On September 28th,. at 7:09 p.m. a brush fire was discovered along the bank of the Ohio River Boulevard,: west of Shields Lane. Again the water in the tank on the. fire truck \^as sufficient to extinguish the blaze. No damage was done to the wooden fence along the Hanna, property. -Police reported • two automobile accidents, in which two passengers were hurt. At 3:34 a.m. on September 16th, Stanley Rollins of Pittsburgh was driving west on the Ohio River Boulevard when his car ran into a tractor trailer^ making a left turn from the Turnpike gasoline station and going west on die boulevard. Ed Dessau, of New Castle, a passenger in Rollins’ car, was treated at Sewickley Valley Hospital for a fractured jaw and bruises. Walter Anderson, also a passenger in die Rollins car, was examined at die hospital and released. The driver of die tractor-trailer, Samuel Hamilton of Appoloj escaped injury Jn die crash, which resulted in considerable damage to die Rollin’s car* and to. die ’right front of the trailer. On September 28th, at 12:30 p.m., Clave Miles, of.
