Below, Kim Wolfendale ties Pilgrim Sarah McSweeney’S hat. photos by Rachel weaver QV first graders re-enact first Thanksgiving By Rachel Weaver Slaff writer As the Pilgrims waited quietly in their clothes of black and white, a line of Native Americans approached with bright feathers in their vests and hair. Eager to greet their guests, the Pilgrims offered smiles and gifts of fruit. Soon, the room was full of dancing and singing as the two groups celebrated the first Thanksgiving. The re-enactment held last Friday at Edgeworth Elementaiy starred students in Noreen Coyne’s, Elise Woodbum’s and Kim Wolfendale’s first grade classes. Dressed in costumes of construction paper hats and aprons, the children "hunted" turkeys, prepared a table, exchanged fruit, performed a square, danced in pairs and sang holiday music, ■ such as "Turkey Dinner," "I’m Glad I’m not a Turkey" and "Let Us All be Thankful." After the festivities, they feasted on a traditional Thanksgiving meal of homemade dishes parents brought to the program including two whole turkeys, mashed potatoes and apple cobbler. Students like Jaden Dobrosielski were thankful for the opportunity to eat with family and friends. Jaden likes Thanksgiving because of "family and turkey." The program was a celebration of the students’ social service project. They collected food for QV families, which they donated to the Union Aid Sciciety. The entire program was a culmination of an inter-disciplinary unit requiring the cooperation of the music, art, gym and computer departments,
