Photo by Tim Edmonson REGIONAL NEWS 741* group kicks-off new study phase By Chris Wells _________________________________ Staff writer ___________________ Putting the official stamp on an innovative demographic pilot study, municipalities of the Sewickley Valley listened at the end of August during a special meeting to how their collective economic fortunes might be more capably managed in the future. After being selected from a collection of 24 applicants in May, Environmental Planning and Design, an urban planning firm, used a public platform to unveil its economic impact and regional area resource strategy to 10 local governments that have made verbal commitments for inclusion in the study. Every municipality except Aleppo, which has yet to name a representative to the study, sat in on the presentation, the gist of which seeks to provide joint non-governmental services. “The purpose for the meeting was to get ail the municipalities together for a kickoff,” Environmental Planning and Design (EPD) managing partner Jack Scholl said, adding “We had a chance to explain what the intent of the study is.” At its most basic level, the Sewickley Valley multiple municipality visioning study has At its core the formation of a fiscal model that defines the region. Information such as revenue and expense sources within the local tax base, and composite property zoning maps will be computed for the specific districts and then expanded to outline the entire study sector. English, a Quaker Valley High School graduate whose fatter served as an officer in Sewickley Heights, was unanimously approved at a special public council session Thursday to succeed 34-year law enforcement veteran Jim Creese. Before Creese was promoted from officer to chief 30 years ago, English hadapplied for the position of Chief, hut Edgeworth residents unitediaswpport of an internal department hire. Despite Ms local upbringing, 3Z citizens of the borough delivered a petition to Edgeworth Council in sgspott of hiring a chief from Within its department. But after a five month applicant search and interview process, a special council search committee recommended English, Citing his record of achievement in training junior officers.
