The niew street lamps that have made Beaver Street a great white way begm to look more and more like something from the Qtiristmases of long again as < the the snow flies and the holiday season approaches. These new landmarks are being figured into the decorating plans for this years holiday season. Sewickley Valley, Chamber of Commerce’s holiday-events committee has come up with some new decorations and activities to make 1986 the best — and brightest — holiday season ever. According to committee member Donna Pavlis, one of the highlights of the upcoming events will be ttie decoration of the large Serbian pine tree along Ohio River Boulevard at Broad Street in Park Place. The pine vvill be decked with htiiidr^ds of tiny white lights to welcome shoppers at the grand entrance to Sewickley. 4 An eye-catcher in the heart of the village will be the four new traffic-light poles at the corner of Beaver and Broad. These will be dressed up with more lights and plush green garlands. Echo-uig these major seasonal monuments wUl be the other lamp posts along Beaver Street — every other post will be decorated with Christmas flags. The seasonal banners boast a gold French horn, holly and the word JOY against dark green-nylon background. Looking beyond 1986, Donna Pavlis noted that for Christmas 1987, the committee hopes to expand on the decorative theme established this year — “so that the whole town will be ablaze for holidays a winter wonderland with lights,” she emphasized with excitement. On Friday evening, Nov. 28, shoppers will be treated to a special open house by village merchants. All stores will remain open until 8 p.m. and will be serving “refreshments and goodies” to visitors. On Saturday, Nov. 29, the North Pole’s most famous resident will arrive in Sewickley at 10:30 a.m. via a Cochran Hose Company fire truck. After his triumphal entry, Mr. Claus will adjourn to Wolcott Park, where he will received visitors, seated in his sleigh with some little helpers. As part of his visit, free photographs and goodies will be given out to children. The Quaker Valley High School Band will provide a brass ensemble to play holiday music from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Shopping hours set by the Chainber are Wednesday nights until 8 p.in. From Dec. 15 throu^ Dec. 23, the stores will be open every night until 8 p.m. Inside Has politics become a beauty contest?
