Appleton announced that he has paid the filing fee and submitted the Candidate’s Loyalty Oath, required of .write-in cahdidates, which assures hirti a place on the baUbt jfor the upcoming November E-lection. Appleton won the nomination of the Constitutional Party, trough write-ins. Appleton .said, “My decision to seek re-iele'ction comes as a re-siilt of the urging of a great number of people throughout the legislative district, people who have ' isupported me since my first cam-j^ign- in 1964 and others who have followed my record iri-THar-risb.tirg and want me to continue in office.’' ■■ , “A major consideration, jn ^e decision, was^the fact that,the acceptance of 'the nomination and. ballot position on the Constition-il Ticket, does not in any way <ihange my political views or my party affiliation. I I Sketch..Of..New..Bridge.,Approach.Ancl..Borough..Entrance f AleppOL Tewnship Report Duff Residents Question Board 2,765 Begin QV Schools On Aug. 31 The elementary and secondary School classes of the Qualcer Valley School Ditrict will convene on Monday, August 31, 1970 with the Junior High pupils reporting at 8:00 a.m„ and the Senior High pupils reporting at &:05 a.m.; while the elementary schools Ml ring their tardy bells at 8:40 a.m. The estimated total enrollment in • the entire district is ejCpected to be 2,765 with 1,321 in the'elemen,-tary schools, 714 in the Junior Ifigh School and 730 in the Seniof IBgh School. This enrollment closely approximates the enroll-Inent for the 1969-70 school year, ^though the kindergarten enroll* toents are lower than expected. Anyone having ^a kindergarten age child who has not yet enrolled for the coming year is encour-jaged" to do so as soori as possible, I Estunated enrollments by build-tags are as follows: Edgeworth Elementary, 272; Fair Oaks Ele-. They were advised that a survey had been made by Murdock Engineers when water service was'in the planning stage, as to supplying water to this area from West View Water Authority, Due to the high cost for the number of homes involved, it was not considered feasible at Hhe time. William Kramer, a mem^ ber of the Regional Zoning Boai’d suggested that this matter be re-fen-ed to their Board to be placed under study of their long range comprehensive plans. The Board. concurred on this matter-Commissioner Ford stated that this house was beyond help of any kind when the firemen* were called. The owners were on vacation, at the time and a call had come’in from one of the neigh- that smoke was coming from the liouse. Commissioner Ford stated that someone would be out to investigate but before he could contact another fireman to accompany him, the second call (Continued on Page 14) Sewickley will be getting a unique Christmas present from the State this year. Construction is expected to begin in 60 to 120 days on a new approach to the Sewickley - Coraopolis Bridge and a new entrance to the Borough from the Ohio River Boulevard. The new approach to the Bridge will eltoinate the left turn from' the Boulevard to the Bridge. To get to the Bridge from' the Boulevard it will be necessary to enter the new approach at Chestnut and cross the Boulevard. The Borough entrance will be greatly changed with the removal of the present island and the construction of a large park-like island from Wialnut to the new Bridge approach, (Continued on Page 9) ^ Area Family Seeks Burglar With A Heart On June 26th a house in the area was ranscacked. During the incident, a portable typewriter was apparently taken. The owner of the typewriter, a young cerebral palsied adult would like it and the stencils returned. The owner, unable to replace jt, depends on the typewriter for communications. He has been unemployed for the past several months. * , ' Any information about the location of the typewriter may be given by calling 741-4924. To Register All citizens of the Quaker .Valley District who have not registered to vote are urged to do so at the field registration offices on Friday, August 21. If anyone did not register, they may do so this Friday at the offices listed above, or at any other field office. Will Alton, director of the Allegheny County Department of elections and registration, said that prospective voters may also register at the downtown Pittsburgh office at the County Office Building, Ross Street and Forbes Avenue. The downtown office hours are. daily from 9:00 a.m. t6 4:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. The office will also be (Open daily to 8:00 p.m. from September 8 through Friday, September 11 in addition to the night schedule on the final deadline day, Monday, September 14.
