Butler, who for 10 years has been a member of the editorial staff of The Times, leaves to-night for Southern Pines, N. C., his future home. Mr. Butler is one of the veteran newspaper men of this section of the country, and is perhaps best known in connection with his articles on matters industrial and the oil fields of the world. During his connection with The Times he has investigated all of the big oil fields that have been discovered, including that at Baku, liusaia. He has also become widely known for his tales of the oil fields and country life, and among the newspaper men of this city he has achieved a foremost place as n writer. Mr. Butler leaves The Times of his own volition, and solely because of a desire to live in a Southern clime. As a tribute to the esteem in which he is held, his associates on The Times last night tendered him a dinner, which took place in Graham's cafe, on Fourth avenue. There were but two ipe -dies, one by Harry Silverman, who piesented, on behalf of his associates, a beautiful clock to Mr. Butler, and the other by R. W. Herbert, who responded in Mr. Butler's behalf. Then the editors remarked that it was time to get back to work.—Pittsburg Times.
