Senator Boyd was born ln Nor-ristown. July 11. 1883. He gradu-ated from tha lforristown Hhjh School In 190ft and from the Uni-versity of Pennsylvania lr 1906, He was captain of the track team dur-ing his University days and creat-ed a record for the 18-pound shot put. He was a member or the Uni-versity news staff and contributed to a number of periodicals during his rollege days. He was a member of the Beta Theta Phi fraternity, and Sphinx Senior Society. After graduation he engaged in Journalism. He traveled through-out the west and worked on a num-ber of western publications as re-porter and sports editor. He con-tributed to a number of periodicals, but in 1915 he retired from literary work and became interested ln bus-iness and politics. His first venture In business had been In 1900. when he became In-terested in the automotive industry Re entered this business tn 1915. in Norristown. and the same year was elected to the State Legislature.
