The festivities started promptly at S o'clock in the auditorium of the .Nazareth Higli .School building when the celebrated degree team of .Nazareth lodge. .No. 1099, con¬ ferred tlie first degree on a class of tweniy-six candidates presented by various lodges of the district. The work of the team undsr the direction of degree master Calvin Hartzell was well received and many times won the hearty ap¬ plause of the attentive audience. .Music for the work was furnished by the large orchestra of the local lodge. Afler the degree work. Stanley J. Fehr. young prominent lawyer, was Introduced as chairman of the meeting. After a brief address of the progress of Odd Fellowship in the district he Introduced .Morris Kistler. of Lehigh lodge, AUen¬ town, and a director of the Odd Fellows Home at .MIddletown. The festivities started promptly at S o'clock in the auditorium of the .Nazareth Higli .School building when the celebrated degree team of .Nazareth lodge. .No. 1099, con¬ ferred tlie first degree on a class of tweniy-six candidates presented by various lodges of the district. The work of the team undsr the direction of degree master Calvin Hartzell was well received and many times won the hearty ap¬ plause of the attentive audience. .Music for the work was furnished by the large orchestra of the local lodge.
Afler the degree work. Stanley J. Fehr. young prominent lawyer, was Introduced as chairman of the meeting. After a brief address of the progress of Odd Fellowship in the district he Introduced .Morris Kistler. of Lehigh lodge, AUen¬ town, and a director of the Odd Fellows Home at .MIddletown. He tpoke chiefly about the home, tell¬ ing of the excellent accommoda¬ tions given the guests there and outlined how efficiently the flnan¬ cial details were handled
Mr. Fehr responded with a few appropriate remarks and present¬ ed the honored guest of the even¬ ing. Past Grand Muster Frank Shannon, of Pittston. Mr. Shan¬ non greeted the audletlce with several witty storiee and humer- otis remarks after which he spoke on the work of Odd Fellowship in general, giving a splendid exposi¬ tion of the principles, alms and ideals of the ordef. Charles .Nicholas, of .Nazaretli lodg»J. made :i number of announcements In¬ cluding an invitaMon to all Odd Fellows to attend the annual Ifall. card party and entertaif.'ment to be lield at Nazareth on April 29.
This big social event is expectej to attract hundreds of Odd Fel¬ lows this year. The program will consist of c:ird playing and danc¬ ing at H.80 to 11 p. m. High class vaudeville entertainment 11 to 12 m. Noise-niakers. etc. will be dis¬ tributed. Dancing will be con¬ tinued nntil a. m. A buffet lunch¬ eon will l)e served after 10 o'clock together with punch.
.Mr. .Nicholas also spoke of the pilgrimage to the Children's liome at Philadelphia on Sunday, .\pril 24. This event is being sponsored hv Lehicton lodge of Easton. and all Odd Fellows are invited to make tbe trip.
The meeting at the High School was then adjourned and the mem¬ bers and gtiests traveled fo the lodge hall where a lunch prepared by the Uebekahs whs served. Dur¬ ing the lunch an entertaining pro¬ gram was rendered. The male chorus of Pen -Vrgyl lodge delight¬ ed the large audience wifh a num¬ ber of selections and solos were rendered by William F. Hunter, accompanied at the piano hy Charles Hess, hoth of tho local lodge. Tlie Hangor lodge (niartet U'ade a big liit with their popular snappy songs and .Mr Milheim. of i'en .\rgyl lodge, gave a novel en¬ tertainment by rendering a niini¬ lier of accordiaii solos.
