Heisey and Balsbaugh are serving their second six-year trems on the board of school directors and Grubb is a new member. Balsbaugh took office as board secretary last July, along with Treasurer Earl R. Lollo. Other school directors are E. Carl Foreman and Clever E. Ernst. 1 TiEsir 191401 407 Herbert H. Traffic Regulation Goes Into Effect Signs indicating restricted parking areas are being erected in critical sections of Hershey and township authori-' ties have announced that the provisions of the township parking ordinance are to be enforced. The ordinance regulating parking of vehicles in Derry Township was enacted on October 12, 1953, .and is "An act authorizing townships of the second class to regulate park,- ing and provide parking accommodations so as to promote the convenience and protection of the public . . ." Placing of the street signs have signalled rigid enforce-ment of the regulations, according to the announcement by the supervsiors. , The traffic ordinance covers most parking regulations in the township, but it was pointed out that other parking _ problems are also covered by the Pennsylvania Motor Ve-hicle Code. A case in point, authorities said, is the problem which arises from parking of vehicles in a narrow alley, thereby hampering the flow of traffic and causing a po-tential hazard in case of fire or other emergency. Such parking is forbidden under Section 1019 of the Motor Ve-hicle Code which states: . . In no event shall any person park . . . any vehicle, whether attended or unattended, upon any highway unless a clear and unobstructed width of not less than fifteen (15) feet upon the main traveled portion of said highway . . . shall be left free for passage . . ." As a public service, the Hershey News publishes this week in full the township ordinance regulating parking: An ordinance regulating and re-stricting traffic, parking and the operation of vehicles, bicycles, buses and other moving objects and devices upon the public streets in the village of Ilershey, Derry Township, Dauphin County, Penn-sylvania, assigning, certain author-ities and duties in connection with the regulation of said traffic and providing for the administration and enforcement of said regulations and prescribing penalties for viola- Authorization — The Board of tions of the provisions of this Township Supervisors shall promul-gate rules for the general traffic regulation; determine, establish and designate the character, loca-tion and use of all official traffic equipment, markings or other ap-it is hereby enacted and ordained purtenances necessary for traffic by the authority of the same, that 'regulation and direction. this ordinance shall be known and Sec. 4-B. — The Township Con-cited as the "Traffic Ordinance." stable and hi k deputies are hereby Sec. 2—Be it enacted and or- authorized to enforce compliance dained by the Board of Township with traffic regulations as provided Supervisors of Derry Township, in this ordinance, with the assist- Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, and ance of other township and village it is hereby .enacted and ordained departments as required, to place, by authority of the same, that in maintain, operate, remove and re-pursuance of authority granted to place all official traffic equipment Townships of the Second Class in and in case of emergency, as on the Commonwealth of Pensylvania occasion of a funeral, public oc-by an Act of General Assembly ap- casion, traffic jam, fire or other proved the 10th day of July, A.D. unusual situations, for the purpose 1947, P.
