HERSHEY NEWS Vol. 6 HERSHEY, PENNSYLVANIA, JUNE 19, 1958 No. 25 MR. AND MRS. HARRY M. BOLTON, 138 West Cho-colate Avenue, recently received the congratulations from their many friends on the occasion of their Gol-den Wedding Anniversary. The Boltons were married on June 6, 1908, at Grantville by the Rev. Allen ApPle. Mr. Bolton is a retired Hershey Chocolate Cor-poration machinist, and Mrs. Bolton is the former Miss Mary Ellen Warfel. They are the parents of a son, Charles, superintendent of the Hershey Park Golf Course. There are two grandsons — Donald, serving in the Army at Fort Knox, Ky., and Bobby, who lives with his parents at 140 West Chocolate Avenue. LEARN-TO-SWIM Programs are under way here for pupils of the Third and Fourth Grades of the schools of Hershey, Campbelltown, Palmyra and Union De-posit. The project is sponsored by the Community Club in' the interest of water safety for all children. In the photo above, Miss Roberta Swarr of the women's di-vision instructional staff conducts a class at the women's club pool. Below, Don Smith of the men's club and as-sistant Dick Cappelli instruct a boys' group. The pro-gram is for non-members of the Community Club. DiClemente Team Takes Lead In Employees' Golf In an interestingly waged struggle, the No. 5 golf team headed by Dino DiClemente nipped the* No. 2 team of Oc-tavio Lalli at the Park Golf Club last week, 174-162,, and moved into undisputed posses-sion of the first place standing in the annual Hershey Em-ployees' Golf Tournament with a 3-0 log. The No. 2 club dropped to the runner-up spot, and Art l Garrison's No. 1 team re-mained in contention with a 158-104 romp of the No. 4 club headed by Jay Swope. Bill Pendleton's No. 6 club picked up its initial victory, a 148- 132 verdict from the winless No. 3 team headed by Pete Gasper. Fourth round play, run-ning this Saturday through next Thursday at the Park layout, sees the Nos. 1 and 5 dubs meeting headon, and a victory for Garrison's No. 1 club would scramble the standings for the fifth and deciding match to be played July 28 through August 2. A brilliant two-under-par 69 gave Garrison the medalist honors, as he scored a 7-1 win over Swope who carded a 78. Harold Kendig, second man on the No. 1 club, carded a 78 in' an 8-2 win over Harry Hamilton. Randy Howard shot a 79 for the Garrisonmen in a 8-5 win over Paul Henry. DiClemente headed his No. 5 club with a 74 and a 6-4 squeaker over Octavio Lalli, who fired a 75. Bill O'Neal scored an 80. .Harry Reese scored a 76 in heading Pendleton's No. 6 team in a 10-4 win over Joe Kupstas. A birdie four at the 18th gave lefthanded George Boy-er of the No. 3 team a 5-4 win over Dino Pellegrini of the No. 6 team as both carded 79's. The' fourth round schedule is 1-5, 3-2 and- 4-6. A committee in charge of public-ity for the home-coming event in-cludes Mrs. Chester Ebersole, Miss Gladys Miller it'd Mrs. Robert Ja coby. SOME GUYS ARE LOOKERS, but two-year-old Sam-my VuloPas used his smeller when he visited the Her-shey Rose Garden the other day with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Vulopas of Elizabethtown. Visitors of all ages are enjoying the June festival of roses on the hillside. CD Firemen Hold Timed Drill Hershey's volunteer fire-men were hosts to lire com-panies from throughout the Dauphin County Zone 4 Civil Defense setup in a timed hy-drant hookup exercise last Sunday afternoon, held on the Hershey Estates Laundry parking lot. The competitive exercise was won by a youthful crew from Paxtang in the time of one minute and 451f) seconds, a new record. The problem was to drive 200 yards, connect to a hy-drant, lay 200 feet of hose and "get water," then lay another 150 feet of hose and again charge with water. Several hundred interested spectators watched the fire crews go through their drills. Second-best time was turn-ed in by the Union Deposit company, with Chamber Hill, Enhaut, Hershey, Hummels-town and HighSpire finishing in that order—all under three minutes. Hershey last year won the timed hydrant hookup drill at Harrisburg, and in practice last week had . consistently completed the hookup in times ranging from one minute and 34 seconds to one minute and 45 seconds. On Sunday, a fire company spokesman said, "somebody goofed." Judges for the event were Lebanon County Civil De- Tense Director Richard Funck, Annville; Indiantown Gap Military Reservation Fire Chief Albert , Rabena ; and New Cumberland Fire Chief A. E. Hoover. The competition was con-ducted by Dauphin County's Civil Defense Zone 4, under the direction of Zone 4 Chief Howard Bretz of Oberlin and Assistant Chiefs George Trump,. Hershey; William Grundon, Paxtang; and Wil-liam'Metka, Chamber Hill. A draft-time drill—pump-ing from a stream—is plan-ned for July in the Zone 4 area. Hershey News Comm. Bldg. Hershey, Pa.
