HERSHEY NEWS Vol. 6 HERSHEY, PENNSYLVANIA, FEBRUARY 6, 1958 No. 6 ROOM WITH A VIEW is being prepared for occupancy at Hershey Hospital by Mrs. Laura Kroeck, R.N., as Hospital Administrator Welch England announced : that four additional beds for medical and surgical pa-tients were added to the existing hospital facilities. The beds, located on the East Wing of the first floor, were • occupied on 'Monday. • The new rooms are furnished with Simmons hos-pital furniture in a "Silver Mist" color which harmon-izes with the pleasing decor carried out in walls, ceiling and floor. With the addition of the four beds, there are thirty-one adult medical and surgical beds available for • patients at the Hershey Hospital. Community Now Under Inn Management Contract Setup Mr. J. B. Sollenberger, pres-ident of Hershey Estates, has announced that the Commun-ity Inn has become associated with the American Hotels Corporation for the manage-ment of the Inn, under a man-agement contract. The associ-ation was effective Febru-ary 1. There is no change in the ownership, Mr. Sollenberger said, and the Inn continues to Special Services Set For Fishburn Church The Fishburn E. U. B. Church will hold its re-open-ing and Evangelistic Services the week of February 9. The week-long services will begin on Sunday evening with the Milton Hershey Glee Club pre-senting their religious pro-gram. Former pastors and visit-ing ministers will bring the messages during the week. ELECTED PRESIDENT W. Allen Hammond, principal of Milton Hershey School, was elected president of the Headmasters' Club of the Philadelphia Area last Sat-urday, January 25. The group. which held its meeting in the Adel-phia Hotel, represents the board-ing schools in this area. be an important part of the enterprises owned and oper-ated by Hershey Estates Which serves as the operating company of the many com-munity enterprises started by the late Milton S. Hershey. The' Inn will continue to stress its policy of being a community center and head-quarters for guests attending the many entertainment fea-tures available in Hershey throughout the year. At the same time, it was announced by Stuart E. Hock-enbury, vice-president of the American Hotels Corporation, that Thomas W. Mason has been appointed manager of the Community Inn. Mr. Mason is being pro-moted from the Parsonian Hotel, Parsons, Kansas, where he has been manager since September 1955. Prior to this time he was manager of the South Seas Plantation at Cap-tiva, Florida, and Hopkins Inn, New Preston, Connecti-cut. Mr. Mason is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State Uni-versity, School of Hotel Ad-ministration, Class of 1947. Mr. Bernd Camper has been appointed manager of the Hershey Country Club and the Community Cafeteria, both of which are owned by the Hershey Estates. AIRMAN Third Class Sil-vio Zaccagnini, son of Mr. and Mrs. Silvio Zaccagnini of 948 East Chocolate Ave-nue, recently completed his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. The airman was home on a fifteen-day furlough and has now been assigned to Cheyenne, Wyoming, to. a technical school where he will study communications and radar. NAVY ENSIGN John D. Bentley has his Naval Aviator's "Wings of Gold" pinned on by Com-mander William P. Tanner, Jr., at the Naval Air Station at Hutch-ison, Kansas. Bentley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles S. Bentley of Hershey, entered the service in June, 1956. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri. RETIRED POSTMASTER Daniel S. Graeff (left) "talks shop" with his successor, Acting Postmaster Russell Zentmeyer. Graeff retired Jan. 31 after servink since 1946. D. S. Graeff Retires As Postmaster Daniel S. Graeff, Hershey postmaster since September Thomas H. Black, closed his desk for the last time last Fri-day and entered retirement. Named acting postmaster was Russell Zentmeyer, for-mer operator of a taxicab service here and a former au-tomobile salesman. Zentmeyer is well known as a former dep-uty district governor of Lions International and as a past president of the Hershey Lions' Club. Retired Postmaster Graeff, who resides at 206 East Gran-ada Avenue, has made his home in Hershey since 1909 and is a former credit man-ager at the Hershey. Chocolate Corporation. Some years ago he resigned there to accept a similar position. with Eline's, Inc., in Milwaukee, Wis., leav-ing that firm when it discon-tinued business. Prior to join.- ing the postal service, Graeff silived as an aCcountant and auditor with the federal gov-ernment. He is married to the former Minna B. Harm of Columbia, Pa., and is the father of a son, William IL- Graeff of Abington. His daughter-in-law is the former Marie Mays of Hershey. There are three grandchildren. Mr. Graeff is a member of Hershey's Trinity Lutheran Church. For recreation, he bowls each week in the Community- Club Bowling League, and he is looking forward to the fish-ing season. During his administration at the post office a number of extensions were added to the delivery system of the town.
